Beaver Hunt

Jake on the Lodge

Golden Retriever/pyrenees on a Beaver lodge in Whitemud Creek

Another evening of  photographic action tonight in Whitemud Ravine. I decided to go back to the beaver dam I saw a couple days prior and see if I could capture some rodent engineering in action.

Upon arrival I met a family and their dog Jake, a golden retriever/Pyranees cross. That’s when the fun started. Jake was intent on tracking down the beaver. We easily spotted the lodge on the other side of the creek, but found out Jake is afraid of water. It was entertaining to watch the dog race around the shore wading in, then jumping back when the water got too deep.

Eventually the beaver got tired of the barking and made an appearance. Jake found his courage and swam out, but the beaver was too fast. After some more barking and sniffing, Jake and his family left. I was on my way out, but a fortunate look back revealed my target. I was able to get within about 12 feet of the hungry rodent. Jake may have left disappointed, but I got my prize!

About Chris Wulff

I like to make pictures. Sometimes they move across the screen, sometimes they move you. I draw with fire on wood, with my finger on a phone, with a keyboard and fancy filters and sometimes even with a pencil on paper. I use a camera to capture what I see and my imagination to capture what I can't see.
