Pyrography with oil colour on basswood. 11 x 7
This wood burning is the follow up to another commissioned picture of Irish Water Spaniels. For the first I was able to meet the two dogs in question and learn a little about their personalities. I find that valuable to getting a good likeness of any living creature.
I didn’t have that luxury with C.J. and only had a few reference shots to work with. I did hear a story about how she loved walking along a beach on Vancouver Island near a lighthouse so that became part of the composition.
The funny part is the sketch I showed my client had a lighthouse that looked too East Coast (probably because I used a picture from Nova Scotia as reference). Turns out Lighthouses have personality too!
