I was introduced to the art form somewhat accidentally while designing a logo for a client. I thought the design would look cool treated as if it were burnt into wood. I was able to get a passable effect using PhotoShop, but it lacked a true organic finish. A trip to the local craft store found an inexpensive wood burner and stock to attempt the effect myself. I became instantly hooked.
I’d spent most of my youth illustrating comics and felt most comfortable line drawing. The wood burner allows me to draw on the wood fairly naturally, but increasing temperature or applying pressure to the surface instantly creates lovely varieties of tone and texture.
